The Struggles of a Small Business Owner

Small Business is hard work and anyone who has been in business for themselves, will I’m sure, agree.

It takes a lot of hours and a lot of hard work to keep the wheels of business turning.

As a small business owner you have to wear every hat you can

think of.

  • Business Owner
  • Business Marketing Department
  • Business Cleaning Department
  • Business Sales Department
  • Business Administration
  • Business Manager
  • Business Worker
  • Business Complaints Department
  • Business Developer
  • Business Writer
  • And the list goes on

So how do you do all this, stay sane and grow a successful business? Well one of the best pieces of advice I can give is

to plan and schedule all your activities. Just as you would schedule in an appointment you need to plan time for all your

tasks. By scheduling things like marketing tasks you can be organised well in advance.

This way you won’t forget to do everything you need to do and you will achieve far more.

Helpful tools

 Google Apps for work

 Saving all your business files to the cloud

 Scheduling blogs through your website

 Scheduling social media posts

Google Apps for work can consolidate all your email and calendars, plus give you storage to save all your work to the cloud

and much more.

By scheduling your blogs in advance you wont reach a panic on a Monday morning thinking OMG what am I going to write.

Using something like Buffer App or Hootsuite to schedule your social media will again have you organised in advance and

less stressed.

Outsourcing

Until you can afford to outsource to another professional, being a small business owner takes a lot of time. Once though,

you can afford to outsource you will again have time to work on your business rather than just in it.

One of the most common things to outsource is the administration side of the business then followed by the marketing.

The simple task of getting a bookkeeper to help you out with administration can save you a lot of time. Particularly if this

isn’t a strong point of yours!

Likewise outsourcing your marketing to a professional can get you better results in far less time and with less money that

you may spend trying things yourself.

These days you can outsource almost anything, from your IT to photography onto design, email reading, and so much more.

Employing

Small business remains one of the largest areas for employment with small business employing more people than big

business do. Hiring is expensive though, workers compensation insurance, wages, superannuation, training and more.

Then if they leave you are doing the training all again. It can be very satisfying and profitable to employ people and your

business can and should grow from strength to strength.

Advice

Through the path of small business it is important to get advice from people who can help you. A good accountant, lawyer

and business adviser are just a few who can save you money along the way.

Your business adviser should provide you with ideas, information, devils advocate, and ultimately share their years of

knowing what works with you.

Top Tips

So if you are in small business already or considering it, know that you will work hard. You will be in business mode 24/7

and the likelihood of a long holiday is out of question, at least in the short term.

If you can achieve your goals and have success it will be one of the most rewarding things that you do.
